This year for the science fair, my mates Angus and max decided to team up. at the start we couldn’t think of an idea, and were stuck. one day while still thinking of an idea matua Rob said that there was a $1000 prize for the team that helped nature and the environment the most. we kept thinking but still no ideas.
one morning we walked into class and matua Rob said that there was one more spot for this thing called Aqua-bots. we thought “well we don’t have any other better ideas so might as well!” so we went for it. On the first day of the program we were introduced to the teacher ( I forgot his name ). we then got started with a booklet that explained how to do it. We then got started building. We cut the PVC pipe and drilled the holes so that the water could enter and escape. we then soldered the motherboard and the wires to the propellers.it was then time to set u the final design and when we tested it in the pool, it didn’t even work. The motors didn’t even work. So then we had to change the science fair idea.
one day i came to school to learn that Max and Angus had an idea, Prince Rupert drops. The drops are made from molten glass dripping into water and then solidifying before it hits the bottom. the first attempt we used a broken measuring flask which didn’t work because the glass being too thick and not getting hot enough. the second attempt we used a thermometer and that worked but we didn’t have any successful ones. The third attempt we looked at the last two failed and had another idea. maybe the shock from extremely hot glass to cold water was too extreme so we warmed up the water and the first drop broke but the second and thirst both worked.
we thanked CJ and went back to class to review the drops and do the experiment. In class we cut the tail of the first one and i successfully worked. The second one left us confused and questioning what happened. On the second one we cut the tail once and it didn’t cut, but that was semi expected. We then cut the tail again and it didn’t break, so we cut the closest as we could and it still didn’t break so we then tried to stomp on the thick side and it didn’t break as hard as we tried. Later that day i took the drop home and smashed the drop with a hammer against concrete. And the concrete that was under it was dented.
